Casa Alonso | Palma de Mallorca

Casa Alonso | Palma de Mallorca

Casa Alonso was designed by architect José María Monravá, according to a project with clear Lecorbusierian nuances and influences.

Initially, the house, with a single square floor plan, delimited a courtyard from three built wings. A few years later, Francisco Casas was commissioned to double the surface area of the house. The extension focused on the addition of a floor and the transformation of the courtyard into a double-height interior space. Respect for the original house that Monravá had designed was the utmost, since the extension took up the original proportions and compositional language, and provided the new floor with a solarium that, like a veil, unifies the composition.

Today, this house is used for educational purposes for the inhabitants of the neighborhood. There was consensus from the public institutions for its recovery and awareness of the architectural value to be preserved.
